For more than 40 years

John Jenkins has been designing and building sails for all types of boats—from ultra-competitive one-design dinghies, to blue water racer cruisers, and everything in between. All of these sails—thousands in total— have one thing in common: they have been personally designed by John with an attention to detail that cannot be found at any other loft.

Since 1975, John Jenkins served as the manager of the Naval Academy Sail Loft where he developed sail designs for the wide range of boats used by the Naval Academy Sailing Program, which included offshore Navy 44s as well as Lasers, FJs, and 420s.

In 1975 John started developing his own Star Sails and the first Jenkins Sails were built. New Jenkins Sails are available to you!

John Jenkins is obsessive about detail, quality and service!

John grew up on the Chesapeake Bay sailing Penguins , Stars, and crewing on his fathers Ranger Sloop “Truant” . From college he went to work for Hard Sails in Islip NY following a very unsatisfying short stint in the corporate world. After learning the basics at Hard sails John worked for Haarstick Sails in Ithica NY and Hood Sails in Annapolis MD.

In 1975 John went to work at the US Naval Academy where he ran the Sail Loft until 2016. During this period John actively raced his Star boat, Cal 25, and crewed on many different racing boats. He is now devoted full time to Jenkins Sails drawing on his 40 years of sailmaking experience.
